Coming from urban research, Gabriela's sculptural practice extends from the exploration of materiality and the concepts of protection and surveillance within the urban landscape. Her work involves a deliberate play of juxtaposing materials to create an interactive relationship with the viewer, challenging the functions of the object. The practice emphasizes the interplay between structure and materiality over the content or context of conceptual construction, incorporating both recognizable and abstract elements. It juxtaposes various aspects of the functional and the non-functional, utilizing construction materials and meticulous consideration of the history behind them. From employing traditional craftsmanship to embracing new technologies, Gabriela's sculptures address the everyday consequences of globalization, with a focus on contemporary existence.
